His name is Busby Adam, he is from Mitchell’s Plain and he also happens to be a dog. However, Busby is not just any dog.

Competing against 333 dogs from across the world, he was recently named the International Boerboel of the Year at the International Boerboel Show and Expo, which was held in the Free State,

The man who raised Busby, 38 year old Lloyd de Villiers, says that he is very proud of his best friend, especially given the fact that the competition was tough.

The competing Boerboel’s are judged on their weight, muscle tone, the health of their coats, shape of the ears, the jawline, height, general appearance and discipline.

The 90kg Busby might look fierce but he is actually a gentle giant who is more likely to slobber over you than bite you.

He is a friendly dog who loves interacting with people and he is especially fond of playing with children.

Like all of us, Busby also enjoys eating good food, and his favourite foods include 1,5kg of raw chicken, steak and mince which he eats once a day.

His buddy, Lloyd, is the owner of his own Boerboel breeding company, aptly named, Busby Boerboels.

Loyd says that along with Busby, he worked very hard to get to where he is.

Busby is also the 2019 International Senior Champion 2019 and the International Grand Champion prior to qualifying for the main event.

Running up to the national competition, he has on five occasions won Dog of the Day and he won Dog of the Year at the international dog show in Parys
