]]>Born and raised in the Northern Cape, Jeff shot to prominence when he took the 55th ranked Columbian doubles team of Juan Cabal and Robert Farah and turned them into a grand slam winning powerhouse.
This year, the duo became the top seeded doubles team in the world, after winning both the US Open and Wimbledon.
They became the first Colombians to win a grand slam title and only the second South American pair to be ranked first.
Of his appointment, Jeff says that he is “delighted to have accepted this role”.
“It is a great platform for me to give back to tennis in South Africa and to be part of the growth of the sport in our country,” says Jeff.
He goes on further to state that South Africa has “huge natural athletic talent” but “need to benchmark ourselves against the best in the world and then deliver on those benchmarks”.
Tennis South Africa’s CEO, Richard Glover, says that they “wanted to secure a Director of Tennis who has a proven track record of success at the highest level”.
“it is not every day you can sign up a current Wimbledon and US Open winning coach,” says Richard.
“Jeff is a great professional, a clever strategist and a fantastic communicator. We believe he will play an influential role in moving local tennis forward, both on and off the court.”
Jeff will still however be coaching his Columbian champs with Richard assuring tennis lovers that the combination of these two roles will allow Jeff “to network at the highest level of the game and help to build international collaborations”.

]]>The University of Cape Town (UCT) student announced through social media on Monday that she had checked her results and she is now officially a medical doctor with a MBChB degree in Medicine and Surgery.
It was just last year that South Africa fell in love with this olive skinned beauty, bestowing on her the title of Miss South Africa 2018.
Since then, the 25 year old’s schedule has been busy, a schedule which included making it to the podium at last year’s Miss Universe contest, where she was crowned first princess.
She has also kept her promise of using her influence to do good in the world, which includes destigmatising TB.
She confessed that she had been diagnosed with TB in 2015, but had not told anyone because she was afraid of “being treated differently and being isolated”.
She says that TB sufferers are often discriminated against and she wants to help people understand that there is nothing to be ashamed of and also encourage sufferers to seek help.
Their lives could depend on how quickly they start medical treatment.
Tamaryn’s busy schedule has not however, kept her from hitting the books and making sure that she maintains her high academic standards.
As a result of her disciplined work ethic, it is now officially okay to refer to her as, Dr Tamaryn Green.

]]>Nabeela, who is from Cape Town, is already a medical doctor, having completed her 6 year degree, two-year internship at Groote Schuur Hospital and currently completing her community service at Mitchells Plain Hospital. She graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree back in 2016, doing so with cum laude honours. This means that she graduated with distinction, having obtained a total aggregate of more than 75%, a remarkably tough aggregate to achieve. For her efforts, she was awarded the Dean’s Medal for being the Best Undergraduate Student at Stellenbosch’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Also in 2016, she was also one of two medical students from Stellenbosch that had the opportunity to visit the Utrecht Medical Centre’s (UMC) Summer School in the Netherlands. She says that during this trip, the locals were fascinated by the Afrikaans that they spoke.
To add to her list of prestige, Nabeela also completed her medical electives at Oxford University as well as the Ivy League university in the US, Cornell. Her academic writing has been published in academic journals on the topics of Medical Education, Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD) and Medical Humanities.
Of the scholarship, she says that “becoming a Rhodes Scholar is an honour”. “It offers me the remarkable opportunity to explore my education further in a deeply enriching environment,” says Nabeela. She adds that she wants to use this opportunity to “grow and create lasting networks” so that she can give back to her country and community.
The Rhodes Scholarship is the oldest and one of the most prestigious international scholarship programmes in the world. It aims to identify and fund the world’s most exceptional young people for postgraduate study at the University of Oxford in the UK. Former recipients have gone on to become presidents of countries and scientific icons. Notable recipients include former US president, Bill Clinton and the South African struggle martyr, Bram Fischer.
Having already completed her degree in medicine, she will be registering at Oxford as a PhD student with her research focused on medicine, medical education and mental health. She wants to contribute to “creating innovative solutions, for healthier and happier communities”. She believes that medical doctors plays a crucial role in building the country through providing better quality healthcare to all South Africans.
